What is an advent calendar? 🧐

An advent calendar is a special calendar used to count the days of Advent, a religious observance in preparation for Christmas. The word "advent" comes from the Latin word "adventus," meaning "coming" or "arrival." Advent usually starts on the fourth Sunday before Christmas Day, which can range from November 27 to December 3, and lasts for 24 days.

The traditional advent calendar is a decorative piece with 24 small doors or windows, one for each day leading up to Christmas. Each door is typically opened to reveal a small gift, chocolate, or a festive image. Some modern advent calendars may have pockets, drawers, or other compartments with surprises behind each one. The purpose of the advent calendar is to build anticipation and excitement for Christmas by counting down the days until the arrival of the holiday.
