English Teacher Goes To Palermo!

So my last trip to Italy this year included two nights in Sicily’s capital, Palermo. What amazed me most was the astounding mix of architectural styles, named Arab-Norman, meaning elements from northern Europe to Islamic origin. Spending most of my couple of days wandering around churches, I grew more and more curious about this city’s history and architecture. Paying a few euros for the majority of churches is certainly worth it as you step into the most intricately designed domes and mosaic sanctuaries.

What’s more, where to begin with the street food? I think my food highlights were visiting both markets La Vucciria and Ballaro. Here you can try the Palermitans’ local dishes, including arancine (rice croquettes) , pane con la milza (bread with spleen) and a wide variety of fresh seafood. It’s safe to say that I was in food heaven.
